In 1983 Harold “Crow Williams, Arnold Williams and Matilda House through the then Southern Region Land Council of NSWALC, secured funds to commence operation of the local Aboriginal Land Council in Queanbeyan. Since 1983 Ngambri has acquired claimable Crown Land under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 provision. These lands are various in their zonings with capacity to utilise for regeneration and harvesting. Ngambri currently have numerous outstanding land claims with the new Department of Primary Industries NLALC have evolved over the years to adapt to the changing climate of legislative and regulatory requirements, active membership has increased the size of the organisation to allow greater involvement in the way our community services are developed and implemented.
The Chief Executive Officer has the delegated authority of the NLALC members to assume responsibility for all aspects of the day to day operation of the Council’s affairs. NLALC consists of 7 Directors, Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson whose role is to ensure the NLALC is complaint with the NSW Aboriginal Land Rights Act legislative and regulatory obligations and make recommendations to the membership who ultimately have the delegations to approve any and all business relating the NLALC. In essence the NLALC through our membership, endeavour to provide a wider range of support services and programs to our community, including employment opportunities, training where possible and practical.
